Today we traveled to Edisto Beach State Park, SC and hiked a very nice 3.5 mile trail through a forested area then down to walk on the beach for a while. This concludes our touring of the Charleston area. We were going to tour a plantation but from all I could read they were not worth the expense. In addition to an entrance fee you had to pay additional fees to see different sections, no thanks!

We will be here for two more days as we prepare to head back to Ohio arriving April 1. This ends our first winter away from Ohio. We did enjoy our travels and stay in Ocala. We are ready to go home and be with our family and church friends. At the end of July we visit our daughter Missy and her family in South Central Ohio then to Cardinal rallies in Goshen, IN, Maine and DC then make our way to Arizona for next winter.

Something different today as we traveled to Patriots Point. Here we toured the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown “The Fighting Lady”. It served in WWII and Vietnam.

Alongside the Yorktown was the Submarine USS Clamagore the last diesel submarine before the introduction of nuclear submarines. It served for 30 years off the coast of Key West, Charleston and New London. It is in bad repair and there are no funds for the repair and will shortly be taken to sea and sunk to be used for scuba training.

We also toured the destroyer USS Laffey “The Ship That Would Not Die”. There was an interesting movie showing the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal and Okinawa.

On site was a very nice exhibit, The Vietnam Experience.

We visited the Caw Caw Interpretive Center today to take a hike through some former rice fields and marsh areas. Hoping to see some wildlife, maybe a gator or two. Well no gators but did have a nice walk and will go back again before we leave the area.

We have a campsite with a view of a small lake with a walking trail which we have walked a couple of times.

Today we went into downtown Charleston to tour the historical section. Parking for our truck is impossible in the lots but thankfully the visitor center has a parking garage which has spaces for RV and we fit just fine. We walked about 5 miles on our self-guided walk. The architecture was great and it has been kept up well. There are homes with small gate access for cars and some have made the space into garden areas.  Here is the tour, enjoy.

Historic City Market three blocks long between two streets. Full of
a variety of vendors like a flee market.

We had lunch here at Sticky fingers
Barbequed pulled chicken that was wonderful as well as the
onion loaf and we even bought a bottle of there sauce.
