Day 4

These nice travel days are very welcomed for we know it will change but will take them one day at a time. Driving across North Dakota is a long straight road with a few rolling hills. It is a remote area and most of the exits are without services. We arrived in Medora it was a sunny mid afternoon so we took a drive into Theodore Roosevelt National Park. I have backpacked there a couple of times but Karen had not seen it. The ND Badlands are extremely different than the SD Badlands. Here are a few pictures from our day.

This guy wasn't moving!

Day 3
Another beautiful day as we traveled through Minnesota to North Dakota. Mileage suffered because we are starting to gain elevation as we head west. That is just part of traveling and expected. Grilled out some barbecue chicken and enjoyed a quiet relaxing evening.

Day 2
Traveled on some rough roads in Wisconsin today but they eventually smoothed out. It was warmer and overcast which made for another nice travel day. When we arrived at the campground an elderly couple greeted us, they have had this place for 50 years and accepted cash only. There was no WiFi or cable and Karen was not happy to miss the finale of Dancing with the Stars. I put the TV antenna up and we had several stations to choose from and low and behold Dancing with the Stars was on and Karen was a happy camper!

Alaska
Well my friends Karen and I will be on the road to our second adventure to Alaska on May 19, 2014. We were there with our three daughters and the Pease family in 1982 and have always wanted to return.
·         Here are some statistics:
·         Leave May 19 (the blog will start on the 19th) and return September 1, 105 days
·         Towing mileage 10,424 plus sightseeing
·         About 196 travel hours
·         1,320 gallon of gas plus sightseeing
·         Cross the Canadian border at Morgan MT on May 25 with Medicine Hat AB our first stop in Canada
·         Meet our friends Jim and Norma on May 27 in Calgary
·         Arrive in Chicken Alaska about June 17 and leave Alaska Mid to late July.
Once we arrive in Calgary we have an itinerary but no schedule. Our journey will be as we go, stop, stay and go.
I will try and post to this blog daily with photos as internet is available. You can leave comments if you wish and also sign in to follow by e-mail and when something is posted you will know.
This blog is an add-on to the one we started last year if you want to browse that journey.

We know that God is our traveling companion and with his guidance we will once again get to enjoy His wonderful creation across North America.

When my arms can’t reach people who are close to my heart, I always hug them with my prayers.
Love you, Dave & Karen

Just traveling last couple of days, we are in Elkhart, IN and headed out today to visit a couple of RV surplus stores. Tomorrow we will be at the manufactures service dept. to have some warranty and upgrade work done. Should be home early evening, we are ready to be home and see our family and friends after 30 days away. We had a great journey.

Thursday 8-1

We went to the Garden of The Gods yesterday afternoon and tried a trail but it was too hot. This morning we went back to see it in different light and hike when it was cooler, good choice!

A very narrow entrance

Kissing Camels

This was a very different experience, very nice with mostly paved walkways and lots of people both days. We would do it again for sure and it is free.

 Black-Billed Magpie

The trading post had the usual tourist things and a very nice section of local art which was an interesting tour in its self. We had lunch on the terrace and purchased a vase made from Colorado Aspen by a Native American.

This was our last official day of vacation touring; now we make the 1,300 mile trip home.
