Day 29

We arrived at Dawson City after 339 miles and eight and one half hours. The road started out very good and soon there were pot holes, frost heaving, gravel and dirt which made for a slow drive. The bad sections were marked with red flags so you did know they were coming. The road side was laced with purple wild flowers and some great views of lakes and rivers but few we could get photos of. As we pulled into town it was as we remembered, with dirt streets and wood boardwalks which we will tour tomorrow.

On our way we stopped for coffee and the largest cinnamon bun, GREAT!
These purple wild flowers lined each side of the road for hundreds of miles

Day 28

We spent the day preparing the trailer and truck for the next leg of our journey from Whitehorse, YT to Dawson City, YT. We had to block off the skylights in the bedroom and bathroom because it is daylight until about 11 pm and again about 4 am. In between it is dusk, never dark and as we head 300 miles north it will be daylight nearly 24/7.

Day27

Whitehorse, YT was our visit today and we were somewhat disappointed. The town as you would expect changed in 30 years and it has lost its charm. We went to the visitor center which had some nice stained glass windows and art pieces representing the native First Nations then walked downtown and along the Yukon River pathway. Then we drove to the Miles Canyon and walked the trail for a while.

This was taken by our friends of our trailer a couple of days ago

The Whitehorse Visitor's Center

Have no idea what this building is but liked it

These sculptures were near the entrance to the town

Built by a local artist, very interesting!

Day 26

Today was a very nice travel day, we left early and stopped at the Rancherio Lodge and Café, saw one black bear and stopped to take pictures of the Nisutlin Bay Bridge at Teslin, YT.

The bridge is the longest water span on the Alaska Highway
1,917 feet with metal grated decking

Day 25

Today we revisited the Signpost Forest looking for our 1982 sign. There were plenty of older signs but it was overwhelming with over 78,000 signs, we had fun looking. Here are photos from 1982 and today.

Day 24
It was a short drive today 130 miles to Watson Lake and we saw 5 black bears, 2 brown bears, a fox, 2 bison and a husky dog on the road.

Watson Lake is the home of the world famous Sign Post Forest with thousands of signs from around the world from people that have traveled through here. We put one here 30 years ago and went looking for it, HA, HA. We will be going back tomorrow.

 Day 23
A WOW day, the drive to Laird River Hotsprings was on a winding, hilly and beautiful ride through the British Columbia wilderness. We had a mix of clear skies, rain, sunshine and overcast. We saw black bear, moose, porcupine, female elk, stone sheep, pheasant and buffalo. We saw the four buffalo crossing the road and soon were grazing around the campground. Dinner was at the Laird River Hotsprings Lodge, then about 8:00 we went to the hot springs and walked about ¼ mile of nice boardwalk. As we stepped into the water it was hot, between 108 to 126 degrees. It was very nice but after about 15 min it was time to retreat.
