Day 52
A cold rainy start today, Homer has a Red Trolley service,
you purchase a ticket and it allows you to get on and off any place for one
day. On the route the driver stopped for us to view an eagle's nest and one was
on the nest, yea! We went to the end of the Homer Spit, and visited the Salty
Dawg Saloon for some refreshments, what a cool place. The entire interior is covered
with $1.00 bills with signatures and other sayings on them. The bartender told
us that each year they remove about $5000.00 and donated it to charity. We
walked a bit then caught the trolley and got off at the Two Sisters Bakery for
lunch which the trolley driver recommended. It was not exactly on her route and
she came back in one hour to pick us up and took us back to the campground, the
beginning of her route. It is still raining so we are hibernating with a good
cup of coffee. Note: A spit is a natural bed of gravel left behind from a
glacier and extends into the water. The Homer Spit is the longest in the world
at 4.5 miles long. They say it is where the land ends and ocean begins.
