Today was another nice travel day 262 miles on a very straight
road passing thousands of acres of corn. As we got close to Nebraska we started
to climb and of course the gas mileage began to drop. When we entered Nebraska
there were several windmill farms and at times they were far as you could see.
We arrived at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park near Ashland, NE.
Very nice large park. As we got to our campsite our friends stopped me from
backing in to tell me there was no water or sewer hookup. I never thought to
ask when I made the reservations but then should have known that for only $20
per night what would you expect. We then went to the dump station to dump our
sewer and get fresh water. Oh and not good Wi-Fi. After dinner we went for a
walk and along the road were fields of beautiful wild flowers.
Later we drove to the marina to get ice cream and then drive
through the park which had several camping areas and very nice looking cabins,
a large lodge and restaurant, toboggan runs, an indoor ice skating rink and a
very tall observation tower. The park had a couple of lakes and bordered the
Platte River. It was a nice day in the 80’s and breezy.
